* Muebles de líneas rectas y afinadas. Encontramos piezas afinadas, con líneas rectas y prácticamente sin ornamentos. Las patas de los muebles, como aparadores, vitrinas y otros socorrieres son rectas y delgadas, prácticamente siempre y en toda circunstancia cilíndricas. Las mesas de comedor y de café muestran exactamente el mismo diseño más, siendo más altas, es más ligero y aéreo.
Los diseñadores de esta época eran Eero Saarinen y Harry Bertoia. Hay que decir que estos, al lado de otros iconos del diseño poseen su reconocimiento. Son modernos y sus piezas tradicionales encajan y acoplarán siempre y en toda circunstancia.
A fines de la década de los sesenta y los setenta, los muebles van adquiriendo formas más redondeadas y gruesas y también incorporando materiales como el plástico. Comienzan a aparecer muebles, que entonces se transformarán en frecuentes de los hogares, producto de los cambios que se dan en la sociedad, como las literas, los sofás convertibles y, con la aparición de la TV, muebles para ponerla.
Asimismo hacen su aparición otros elementos, muy populares, como los muebles-bar, incorporados a los living, las mesas camareras con ruedas, las banquetas altas y se incorporan poco a poco las zonas de tertulia a los salones, al lado de los espacios para poder ver la T.V. en familia.
Otros muebles novedosos de la temporada son el sofá modular y las mesas telefoneras. Todo ello se puede adquirir hoy día en las páginas de muebles online.
* Los tonos de los tapizados. Las tapicerías pasan de ser grises en los cincuenta, sobrias y muy elegantes, a los colores alegres y vistosos de los sesenta y los años de la estética hippie. Los cincuenta suman una decoración urbana, cosmopolita, del N. York en el que se mueven las grandes compañías, reflejada en infinidad de películas y series.
Los tapizados van desde la piel, hasta imitaciones de esta, pasando por las más suntuosas como el terciopelo o bien la pana.
Los sesenta aportan diseños pop, con colores estridentes y dibujos grandes y vistosos en telas y tapizados. Son comunes las rayas, los círculos grandes y dibujos grandes y geométricos asimismo en los papeles pintados. Los colores dan paso a los más psicodélicos y futuristas de los años por llegar. En los setenta se busca lo lúdico y entretenido.
